It’s that time of the year again. Every year, Elision welcomes motivated junior colleagues. Last Monday Jeroen Vandevelde, student application development at PXL college started his 3 month internship.
HOW JEROEN AND ELISION MET
In the beginning of last academic year, Jeroen and fellow graduates were given the challenge to work on a real-life project with Elision. With a combined team of junior application developers and network engineers, Jeroen helped develop an innovative prototype ‘Endless Aisle’ solution.
The goal of the project was to develop an application that can be used in clothing stores. A tablet is placed in the fitting room, next to the mirror or integrated in a wall. Through the use of RFID technology, the tablet will recognize the items you’re holding while entering the fitting room. Connecting that information to the digital product information in the SAP hybris ecommerce engine, the application then suggests other relevant items. It will for instance be able to suggest the matching pants with the blouse you are trying on.
Other functionalities included the ability to look at the clothing items in other colours, read reviews and request a staff member to bring another size. How about not having to get dressed again to go and look for that jeans one size up?
The result : a unique shopping experience for customers leveraging digital innovation. Technology that can help you get the best fit and experience while shopping for a new outfit, how about that!
As from February 29th, Jeroen is back at the Elision office at Corda Campus, Hasselt. During his 14 week internship, he will be developing a cloud based logging aggregation system optimized for ecommerce solutions running SAP hybris.
Say what? Elision manages a large number of complex and heterogeneous systems, hosted anywhere and everywhere in the world. They produce all kinds of log files like Apache log files, Tomcat application logs, database logs, syslogs, etc. Not only are these log files important for debugging purposes, they’re also necessary to proactively validate the quality of the operations on the production systems. During his internship, Jeroen will help design and build a cloud based prototype system to aggregate all these log files in real-time, analyse them and detect trends / anomalies.
Jeroen is a 20-year old junior colleague with a passion for IT and an eagerness to learn. He likes reading, running and coding in his spare time.
