Elision and the KDG University College have been working together for many years. We find it important to share our insights with students, so they are prepared for professional live and can experience a real project during their internship.
Last year we had a lot of fun with the Amazon Alexa device and in 2016 we created an e-commerce micro-service platform, based on the Amazon Web Services. And this year, we are back with one of the newest technologies: Google Vision API
What is Google Vision?
Vision API is a cloud platform from Google, that offers capabilities around image recognition. Based on the analysis from the image, different layers of structured feedback can be acquired through an API. An example:
As you can see, the structured feedback for this lovely jar of Nutella is really relevant and describes the image really well. You can also try it for yourself on the Vision API page of the Google Cloud platform.
What will the students do?
The students will create a web application based on a technology of choice (React, AngularJS, …) where an image can be uploaded to the Vision API. The feedback from the image analysis will be used to drive a product search. The OCC (Omni Commerce Connect) API layer from SAP Hybris Commerce will be used to search for the products that are related to the result of the Vision API.
In this way we can find products that are similar to the products on the image, identified by the Vision API. Our goal is off course not (only) to identify a jar of Nutella, but also to verify whether we can apply this in the fashion industry. And find similar shirts or pants that match the t-shirt. The Vision API can certainly help us to identify the color scheme, gender and the brand of the products.
Lander and Beau from KDG will start their internship on April 16th and we will certainly keep you up to date with findings and results.
